The English Woodland Garden–September

The leaves may not be changing color in the St. Louis area yet, but I can tell how different the light is as we approach fall just by looking at this month’s photo of the English Woodland Garden…it looks weird compared to every other photo I’ve taken this year!

The English Woodland Garden–August

Today’s visit to the Missouri Botanical Garden was in the late afternoon, instead of in the morning like usual, so the lighting in the English Woodland Garden was very different, and I really enjoyed seeing it from a different perspective!

The English Woodland Garden–July

We had to dodge the raindrops at the Missouri Botanical Garden this morning, but I wanted to make sure we made it to the English Woodland Garden before the excessive heat watch kicks in! I love how green everything is right now!

The English Woodland Garden–June

You really have to know they’re there to find them, but this month’s photo of the Missouri Botanical Garden’s English Woodland Garden even contains a pair of mallard ducks!

The English Woodland Garden–April

I’m really excited about this month’s picture of the English Woodland Garden, because I had the rare opportunity to take the photo in the evening!

We enjoyed a nice springtime stroll through the Garden, and especially the Japanese Garden, where the cherry trees are in full bloom, tonight. It was nice not only to be able to capture a different light in the English Woodland Garden while we were there, but also to see signs of spring everywhere!

The English Woodland Garden–February

It’s hard to believe on this beautiful, springlike Sunday that less than a week ago, we had windchills of -25!

The English Woodland Garden–January, Part Two

I know I just shared a picture of this year’s “MoBot Through the Year” location last week, but St. Louis was lucky enough to be blanketed with 10 inches of snow this weekend, so of course I have to share another, this time including a frosty white blanket:

The English Woodland Garden–January

I won’t lie…I had a really difficult time selecting a location for my monthly photo series at the Missouri Botanical Garden this year, the fifth year I will have undertaken this project. There are just so many beautiful spots! Originally, I was thinking about either the Chinese Garden or the Ottoman Garden, but when I asked the Garden what they thought on Twitter, they suggested the English Woodland Garden in addition to those two. So yesterday, I took a walk through the English Woodland Garden, and I decided it really is the perfect spot. It’s very different from the locations I’ve done so far, because there are no structures in the shot. It also includes flowing water, which is different…while I’ve had reflecting pools in two of my photo series (in front of the Climatron and the Linnean House), and the big lake in the Japanese Garden in a third, I’ve never included a stream before.

I’m really excited about photographing this spot…I can’t wait to see how it changes throughout the year!
