Hardin Planetarium

The second day of our trip to Bowling Green, KY, was a Sunday, and we discovered that the Hardin Planetarium, located on the Western Kentucky University campus, had a free show on Sunday afternoons. Of course we had to go…the show was focused on New Horizons and Pluto!

There were some great displays in the building, and the show was fantastic! I think we all learned something, and we also found out that the shows change about every six weeks, so there is clearly always something new to see at the Hardin Planetarium!

Cherry Hall

One of our reasons for our visit to Bowling Green, KY, was that Bunny was attending a volleyball camp at Western Kentucky University. I have visited the Western campus with Ryan before, and I remembered how beautiful Cherry Hall, at the top of WKU’s hill, is, so of course we had to stop by:

This is my only real experience with a truly big university, and I really love it…I wouldn’t mind if any (or all) of the Fab Five decided to go to school there!

WKU Volleyball Camp

Bunny had the opportunity to spend three days this week at an all-day volleyball camp at Western Kentucky University. We didn’t stay and watch her too much, but it was clear she loved getting the chance to work with some of the girls and coaches from the team, and make some new friends!

Markel Family Summer Vacation–Days One and Two

Last Monday, we packed up the car, and headed out for almost a week for our first-ever Markel family vacation. Our first stop was Bowling Green, KY, to visit Ryan’s parents. The first day was pretty much driving and family time, plus the children got to go bowling, ride bumper cars, and play skee ball without me, much to my chagrin!

On day two, we toured the National Corvette Museum, a place I had never been before. It was fun seeing all of the cars, and terrifying seeing how large the sink hole that had swallowed up several of the cars there had been!

We also visited the Corsair distillery to learn how whiskey is made. We’re very familiar with the beer brewing process, but this was something totally different. I was very impressed with how efficient their very small operation is!

The distillery is located on the Fountain Square in downtown Bowling Green, so we walked around there a bit, as well. There were many beautiful old buildings to admire!

And we stopped by Western Kentucky University, Grandpa’s alma mater, to see the campus and admire the beautiful view from the top of the hill!
