The end is getting near!

Turkey and Bunny are officially done learning new concepts in Algebra 1!!! This week focused on the distance formula and finding the midpoint, and once they finished that, everything else is review. Ladybug may have a few small new concepts left to learn, but her math is wrapping up, as well.

Speaking of Ladybug, she finished her grammar book this week! She was getting really tired of diagramming sentences, so I think she’s relieved…I know I am. She still has writing and spelling left, so she’s not completely done with language arts. Turkey and Bunny have been doing research for their final papers of the year, which will be the longest one they’ve had to write yet.

Our history lessons focused on India (including the Bhopal disaster), Iran and Iraq, and the Chernobyl disaster. We read about Ayatollah Khomeini and Saddam Hussein, which are both familiar names from my childhood. It’s weird teaching about things I remember! We only have about 2 1/2 chapters left, plus a fun study of “We Didn’t Start the Fire” that I planned for the last week of school.

Ladybug finished learning about cnidarians in science. The end of the chapter focused on corals, which are fascinating creatures. She only has one chapter left, which will cover pretty much any sea creatures that didn’t fit into any of the categories we’ve already studied. Turkey and Bunny finished the first of three chapters on the forces of nature, and both got an “A” on their test. They just have the other two chapters on the forces of nature to go, and then they’ll be done with science, too!

We finished the third act of As You Like It, and also learned more about the life of Shakespeare and the different kinds of plays he wrote. I have also continued reading Beezus and Ramona, and we’re down to the last chapter. I think I’ll read Little House in the Big Woods to finish out the school year, so Chickadee can get to know Laura and Mary before we start summer school in June…we’ll be focusing on Westward Expansion and pioneers this summer!

Three weeks left, but probably not even three full weeks. I think we have about 13 days to go…but who’s counting?
