Working on her Explode the Code book!
I’ve mentioned before that Chickadee is a big fan of cardboard standees, so of course when she saw Minecraft characters when we stopped at Target before school this morning, she had to take a picture with them!
Baking cookies for this weekend’s church music picnic…Chickadee is keeping an eye on things! (Yes, that is Star Trek: Deep Space Nine on in the background.)
Hard at work on handwriting!
Teaching a first grader and high schoolers at the same time is interesting, and something very new to our homeschool. Here’s an example of the zaniness you can expect in this situation. Earlier this week, I was quizzing Turkey on the Periodic Table of Elements. I got to “What does ‘F’ stand for?” and there was a momentary silence in the room as he mulled it over. Out of nowhere, Chickadee piped up, “Fluorine!” Now, I know she listens to her siblings’ lessons sometimes, but I was really not expecting her to remember something as unusual as Fluorine, and provide the answer at the correct time! I’m really interested to see how her education continues to unfold, because I think she’s retaining a lot more than I had anticipated!
Teaching a child to read is both terrifying and thrilling. I love watching Chickadee begin to read and understand short stories!
Today’s Chickadee Thursday picture is actually from last night. Chickadee, Moose, and I had tickets to the Cardinals game, so of course we had to stop by and say hi to Chickadee’s old pal Fredbird!
This picture is from Tuesday, but it’s too cute not to share!
We stopped by the mall today, and Chickadee can’t just walk by a cardboard cutout, so she had to have her picture taken in this one outside Claire’s!
I can’t believe today is Chickadee’s first day of first grade! She even looks older to me!
Today was Rock Band day…our all-girl band had to rock one last time before school starts back up next week!
