Saying Goodbye to An Old Friend

I suffered a great trauma this weekend.

I went to try on my old faithful swimsuit…it’s been a few years, and I wanted to make sure it looked ok with the coverup I bought on clearance a while back. I assumed that it would fit like it always has, so you can imagine my surprise when I put it on and discovered that it in fact, did not fit, not even a little bit.

I think most people will agree that shopping for a swimsuit is not their favorite activity. I know that I think it’s a fate worse than shoe shopping, which I really, really hate. And apparently, if you “wait” to start shopping for a swimsuit until April, you may already be too late, because the sizes or colors or styles you want are already sold out.

I have to admit, I was really attached to this swimsuit. I have happy memories of wearing it on vacation to Pheasant Run (now closed), and Cabana Bay (where I was planning on wearing it this summer), and to the YMCA when I was a chaperone for choir camp. Not only that, but this was the first swimsuit I ever owned that I actually liked and felt really good in. I didn’t mind putting it on, which was a first for me…I felt really comfortable in it. Sadly, I don’t even have any pictures of it on, because as much as I loved it, I was still a little too self-conscious to allow a camera near me when I was wearing it.

I’ve ordered a new suit. It’s a similar style to my old one, but it’s not the same, because nothing could be. I’m really hoping it fits, because it was the only thing I found that I liked that was in remotely the right size and color palette I was looking for. Hopefully, it will be just as perfect, and I’ll get to make lots of new memories in it, and maybe even take some pictures while wearing it, but I’ll always miss my old, faithful, friend!

  1. It wasn’t even really that old. 🙁

I hope you love your new suit, and I will be happy to take pictures of you posing in it when it arrives.
