Mani Monday

This isn’t the first all-purple mani I’ve done, but I used some different shades this time (all Holo Taco), and I topped them all with “Red Flake Taco,” which is really pretty. Starting with the thumbnail, “Violet Nightmares,” followed by “Purple Slushie,” “Cool Cat Mom,” “Lavender Syrup,” and “Glamethyst.” I went dark to light, but I have to admit, the first two shades are so similar, you can hardly tell a difference, and the last two shades almost look more different in texture only rather than color. I still like it though…you can’t go wrong with purple!

Mani Monday

This week’s Mani Monday is inspired by the classic Valentine’s Day colors of pink and red. I used Holo Taco’s “Crimson Void” on my thumbnail, followed by “Pink Fizz” on the next three nails, and ended with “Sacrificial Lacquer” (a limited release magnetic shade that didn’t make it into their first magnetic collection). I also added a coat of “Red Flake Taco” over the pink on my ring finger, and I really love it…I can’t wait to pair it with other colors!

I chose two of Holo Taco’s jelly shades for this manicure look…the blue “Be Kind Rewind” and the pink “Life In Plastic.” I love that thanks to how sheer the polishes are, you can achieve an excellent blend in the middle, and I love the shade of purple these two retro shades combine to achieve! I also tried something new by doing the blend from top to bottom on the nail instead of side to side like I usually do…it’s taking a lot of getting used to, because I’m so accustomed to the longer lines!

Mani Monday

I wanted to use some of my new Holo Taco shades for this week’s Mani Monday, but I was also feeling too lazy to come up with something creative, so I just chose two shades from the “Dark Rainbow” bundle, the dark blue “Sunken Secrets” and the brown “Burnt Bridges.” I also added a coat of the glittery “Crystal Skies” over my thumb nail, just to keep things interesting!

Mani Monday

This week’s Mani Monday is inspired by the winter weather so much of the country has been experiencing. This is one of my more complicated manicures…I used Holo Taco “Blue Freezie” topped with “Frost Light” on my thumbnail, “Circuit Breaker” on my index finger, “Sparkling Water” topped with “Frost Light” on my middle finger, “Blue Freezie” on my ring finger, and “Sparkling Water” on my pinkie. I also did my best to add a snowflake in “Circuit Breaker” to my ring finger…like most of my attempts at nail art, it isn’t too neat, but I did my best!

Red and black is such a classic combination, and that’s what inspired this week’s Mani Monday. I used Holo Taco “Black Holo Wish” (which I picked up when it was rereleased for the last time over the holidays!), with an accent nail of “Favourite Sister”…I love the combination!

I got a whole bunch of Holo Taco nail polishes for Christmas (three rainbows’ worth, to be exact!), and I’m looking forward to trying all of them out. I decided to start with “Mint Mojito” with an accent nail of “Bring Me the Teal.” I also topped two nails with “Starry-Eyed”…you can really see the star over the dark teal shade!

The Top THREE–Cosmetics Companies

I’m known for extending my “Top Five” lists to include six items, but today I’m taking a look at the rare “Top Five” list that only has three items, because while I have a lot of brands in my vanity table, there are just three cosmetics companies that I absolutely love!

  • Bésame Cosmetics–This vintage-inspired brand offers products that are designed based on actual cosmetics products/colors from the 1920s through the early 1970s. They have also created collections inspired by influential women from that time period including Lucille Ball, and most recently, Ella Fitzgerald. I especially love their refillable powder compacts, and the different formulas of powders they offer, including setting, finishing, and illuminating varieties.
  • Colourpop Cosmetics–If I want fandom-based cosmetics, from Animal Crossing to Disney to Sailor Moon, this is where I turn. Aside from the cool theming, I love how pigmented and shimmery their eyeshadows are (especially the Super Shock Shadows), and I really love their lip lacquers…I just wish they’d make more of them!
  • Holo Taco–These are the prettiest nail polishes I’ve ever seen! The colors are vibrant, and there is so much shimmer in the holographic formula that it absolutely sparkles in the light. It also wears exceedingly well…I can go for much longer without chipping a nail with Holo Taco than I can with any other brand, and after over a full year of “Mani Mondays,” I’ve had a lot of experience!

Where are your favorite places to buy cosmetics?

Mani Monday

I decided gold and black were the perfect, elegant colors for a mani designed to ring in the New Year, using Holo Taco’s “Bottle Service” and “Black Holo Wish.”

For Christmas, I went for a fun, freeform pattern on my nails (because I didn’t want to mess with stripes again!) in Christmas colors, using Sally Hansen Miracle Gel “Me, My Elf & I” (green) and Holo Taco “Favourite Sister” (red).
