Pie Day 2025

Happy Pie Day!

This year I made seven (well, technically eight, because the cookie butter pie recipe makes two pies by default) pies, which somehow seems like much less work than the nine (or ten) I made last year!

The one new pie for this year is the one I chose…cranberry-rhubarb. I also tried a new style of lattice crust, alternating thin and thick strips, which I think looks really cool. I hope it tastes as good as it smells!

The rest of our lineup was pretty standard…pecan, pumpkin, caramel apple (although I did tweak that recipe pretty significantly), cookie butter, butterscotch, and s’mores:

Each of the girls now has a pie that they make with very little help from me (mostly I’m just in charge of crusts), which makes Pie Day a breeze…I hardly feel like I did any work at all!

Pie Day 2024

It’s that most delicious of days, when our house smells like a bakery…Pie Day(s)!

This year, I made nine pies (ok, technically ten, because one was a double recipe, and if you want to be really technical, 11, because I was so unhappy with one I remade it), according to our family tradition where everyone at the Thanksgiving table gets to request a pie. Between yesterday and today, I made pumpkin, s’mores (two ways), Biscoff cookie butter, butterscotch, Nutella, caramel apple, vanilla, and pecan (and also the stuffing and cranberries).

I had a lot of help…Chickadee made the pumpkin pie mostly by herself, and Ladybug made the butterscotch and helped me with the caramel apple and the vanilla. Bunny will be here tomorrow, but we did miss the extra help in the kitchen today!

I really love that the pie lineup is slightly different every year…it’s nice that we can count on having some regulars and some new additions, too!

Pie Day(s) 2023

This year, instead of “Pie Day” in preparation for Thanksgiving, I spread the work out over two Pie Days! I had nine pies to make, plus I wanted to spend as much time with Bunny as possible once she got home from college this afternoon, so I made two s’mores pies (a first for us…I’ve never made two of the same pie before!) and a chocolate-hazelnut pie yesterday (I also made the cranberries then, too). Today we took care of the rest of the pies, including a new addition to the lineup, a pineapple pie, plus pumpkin, butterscotch, caramel-apple (made by Bunny), pecan, and vanilla cream:

Nine pies is still our Thanksgiving record!

Pie Day 2022

Welcome to my bakery!

Today, as is our tradition the day before Thanksgiving, we made pies. Seven of them this year, which honestly seemed like nothing after the nine we made in 2021! Most of our creations were old favorites…Nutella, pumpkin, caramel apple, pecan, butterscotch, and s’mores:

The one new addition this year isn’t even technically a pie…I made a tart for the first time. A cranberry curd tart with a shortbread crust. I’m hoping it’s as delicious as it looks!

I’m really looking forward to enjoying the fruits of our labor tomorrow!

Pie Day 2021

That one day of the year when the kitchen turns into a bakery is here! This year I made nine pies, and I even tried a new recipe! I also worked a bit at making my crusts look prettier, with some mixed results…pie crust is just not something I’m good at.

Here’s the rundown:

  • Cranberry custard
  • Nutella
  • Blueberry
  • Butterscotch
  • Pumpkin
  • Pecan
  • Caramel apple
  • S’mores
  • Apple crumb

It’s going to be hard to wait until tomorrow to dig in!

Pie Day 2020

Happy Pie Day!

We baked eight pies today. Not a record, but still a lot of pies, and our house smells like a bakery!

Caramel-apple (Bunny made this one, and it’s definitely the prettiest of the bunch!):

Lemon meringue:

Cranberry-apple:

Peanut butter:

Pecan (Someday I’ll make a pecan pie that actually looks pretty, but until then, at least it tastes good!):

S’mores:

Butterscotch:

Pumpkin:

Now we just have to wait until tomorrow to dig in!

Piestravaganza 2017!!!

After the record NINE pies I made last year on the day before Thanksgiving, this year’s seven pies didn’t seem like quite as much work!

We’re having our standard lineup, as follows:

This day is a lot of work, but it also makes the house smell like a bakery, so I can’t complain too much!

Pie Day 2016

It took me about seven hours to make the nine pies we need for Thanksgiving this year. We’ll be enjoying caramel apple, cranberry-apple, chocolate hazelnut, pecan, s’mores, butterscotch, pumpkin, apple, and vanilla cream pie…but definitely not all at once!

Pies for One and All!

As I always do the day before Thanksgiving, I spent the better part of today making pies. One for each member of the family, as is our tradition:

This year’s pie lineup:

  • Ryan–Caramel apple
  • Me–Spiced cranberry apple
  • Turkey–Peanut butter cup
  • Bunny–Pecan
  • Ladybug–Butterscotch
  • Moose–S’mores
  • Chickadee–Pumpkin

Chickadee did actually pick her pie this year, but I think pumpkin pie is the only one she really knows by name…I hope she’s happy with her choice!
