2015-16 School Year–Week Twenty-Three

We finally wrapped up the school week we began on March 14th today!

It’s hard to remember all the things we’ve covered since then. We finally finished Mr. Pipes Comes to America, and began The Accidental Voyage. I’m very excited to take a tour of Italy with Mr. Pipes, and learn about some of the ancient hymn writers of the church.

In math, Turkey and Bunny have been working on functions and graphs, slope, and systems of equations. It is kind of exhausting teaching this stuff! Ladybug has been working on reducing fractions, and learning some new geometry terms like line and line segment.

Ladybug has reached the first message in the web in Charlotte’s Web. Turkey and Bunny have continued their study of The Trojan War. I really enjoy hearing their commentary on the characters based on what they know from all the mythology they’ve studied!

In history, we learned about the rise of factories, and how that changed what work looked like. We also learned about the Luddites, and I have to admit, I kind of found myself sympathizing with them!

Instead of our regular science, which I didn’t want to interrupt with such a long break, we’ve been watching Frozen Planet. It’s a fascinating look at the Arctic and Antarctica, but it’s also a brutal reminder of how cruel nature can be.

Next week we’ll be back to our regular schedule…things are already beginning to wind down, though, and before you know it, the 2015-16 school year will be over!
