On of my favorite things about the approach of the Christmas season each year is the addition of peppermint mochas to coffee-house menus. From the standard Peppermint Mocha at Starbucks, to the Sleigh Ride at Gloria Jean’s, and the Peppermint Mocha Trio at the Seattle’s Best that used to reside in our Borders of blessed memory, they are hands-down my favorite coffee drinks of all time.

My one sadness is that I couldn’t get such a drink at McDonald’s. I love McDonald’s coffee itself, more so than any other place except for maybe Seattle’s Best, which is no longer an option for me since Borders closed. And now that McDonald’s has the McCafe setup, they even have good coffee-house style drinks. But no peppermint mochas.

Until now.

I think I noticed the new addition to the menu the first day it was there. And, of course, I had to order it the moment I saw it. I’m happy to report that the McDonald’s Peppermint Mocha is the best one I’ve had yet, even better than the Sleigh Ride coffee I used to enjoy at Gloria Jean’s years ago. The best part? It’s a good dollar and a half cheaper than the coffee-house versions!

It’s such a small thing, but it really brightened my day. It’s funny how the little things in life can really make a difference!
