Sartorial Saturday–Skirts and Shorts

Time for a look at another gorgeous plaid dress by Miss Candyfloss!

I’m not going to lie…the Basillia-Sun was not my first dress choice in this style. I had originally planned to order the Virtue-Regina, which is very similar aside from some differences in the décolletage. I really liked the soft colors of the Virtue-Regina, which is also a plaid, but much lighter and broader. That dress sold out in a heartbeat, though, and since I really wanted a dress that buttons all the way down the front, I decided to give the Basillia-Sun a try.

The bold colors are different from those on the Myrtle-Sun dress, but they have the same bright, cheerful, summer feeling!

I kept my accessories fairly simple, with a freshwater pearl necklace and Splendette duchess bangles in some of the colors found on the dress:

The part of this outfit I was most excited about was the fact that you can wear the skirt unbuttoned with shorts underneath. Miss Candyfloss had a pair of matching shorts in a yellow shade, but I wasn’t convinced they would fit me, and they were a little shorter than I prefer, so I went with a different pair. I love the breeziness of having the skirt open and the coverage the shorts provide! It’s the perfect mid-century summer look!

Buttoned or not, it’s a beautiful summer dress!

This is the last item I purchased from the Miss Candyfloss “Dream Away Holiday” collection. This spring was my first real experience shopping with them directly (as well as from of their retailers), and I’ve come to love everything about the brand…the fit, the quality, the styles, and especially these beautiful colors! I’m already looking forward to seeing their autumn/winter lookbook, and hoping to add a few more pieces to my wardrobe!

Sartorial Saturday–Mad for Plaid

If you think this plaid looks familiar, you’re right! I was so impressed with the beautiful colors in this pattern on my Hiva-Blush sunsuit from Miss Candyfloss that I couldn’t resist the Myrtle-Sun dress in the same plaid, which reminds me of a summer sunset! And I don’t love just the cheerful colors…it’s also an amazingly flattering dress!

Speaking of bright colors, I have just the right Splendette bangles to complete the look!

The neckline on this dress is so pretty!

It looks like a halter from the front, but you can see in the back that there’s more substance than just a tie around the neck (which I can’t wear comfortably). There’s also a darling little bow detail, which I love!

This is definitely one of my favorite pieces from Miss Candyfloss…I love everything about it, and I’m super excited to wear it this summer!

Sartorial Saturday–The Sunsuit

Time to step outside of my comfort zone!

I don’t often wear shorts. I did buy a romper from Unique Vintage last summer, but I pretty much wear it exclusively with the matching skirt, so it barely counts. But when I saw this beautiful Hiva-Blush sunsuit from Miss Candyfloss, and especially the gorgeous plaid of the shorts, I knew I had to give it a try.

I picked some of my most cheerful accessories to coordinate with the outfit, including a Splendette duchess bangles stack and glitter necklace in colors to go with the aforementioned plaid, and my Spiffy the Sausage Dog brooch from Erstwilder:

I also threw on a Yemak cropped cardigan, because even at this time of year, there can be cool days:

But not a lot of them (unfortunately for me!):

I really love this outfit. The fact that sunsuit is comprised of flowy walking shorts definitely helps me feel more comfortable in it (Chickadee even thought it was a skirt at first), and I think I’ll be living in this look this summer!

Sartorial Saturday–The Dress Suit

One of the things Miss Candyfloss does really well is vintage-style suits. Skirt suits, pantsuits, and my favorite, the dress suit. I waited a long time to find one that I thought would be perfect for me, and when I saw the Cherly-Regina dress and matching Loula-Lee jacket, I knew it was the one!

Based on the size chart, I needed to order the jacket in a size smaller than I normally do, which made me nervous, but I’m glad I trusted it, because the fit is perfect!

Up close, the stripes on the jacket are orange (although from a distance, they could easily pass for red), so I accessorized with a blue and orange Splendette Duchess Bangles stack and a blue Meteor Jewelry necklace. I love the adorable detail on the pockets of the jacket!

There was a possibility I was going to have to serve jury duty this week (luckily for me, they told me they didn’t need me!), and I was going to wear this outfit, because I think it’s the perfect blend of retro and still “courtroom appropriate!”

Here’s a look at just the dress, which has a lovely scalloped neckline, and detailing at the waist that matches the jacket:

I continue to be impressed with the quality and fit of each Miss Candyfloss piece I buy…I’m glad I ventured out of my comfort zone to do a bit more shopping with them!

Sartorial Saturday–Everyday Shirtwaist Dress

This isn’t just a look at my newest (and favorite!) Miss Candyfloss dress (which you may already have seen)…it’s also a story of excellent customer service.

When I saw the Maud-Kat dress in their spring lookbook, I was pretty interested in it. When I saw additional pictures of it the day before it was released, pictures that highlighted the gorgeous color of the dress, I fell in love. I had to have this dress.

But here’s the thing about shopping with small companies…their stock is pretty limited, especially in plus sizes, and this was a limited piece on top of that. And then there’s the other issue…trying to figure out the time difference between here and Sweden, where Miss Candyfloss is based. I thought I had done my time zone math right, and I was ready to hit “buy” the day the dress came out…and then I realized I was late to the party, and the dress had already sold out in my size.

I actually cried, which I know is ridiculous, but the dress was so pretty. I even mentioned something on their Facebook page about how gutted I was to have missed out on this item. And that’s when they blew me away with their amazing customer service. They messaged me asking for my size, and told me that if they had a return or cancelled order, they would contact me so I could have a second chance. And they did actually have a cancellation, and they contacted me as promised. But because of the time difference, I received the message in the middle of the night, and by the time I read it, the dress had sold out again. I thanked them for trying to help me out, and asked them if they had a list of retailers who would be offering the dress. Instead of just giving me the list, though, they gave me the name of a specific store in Holland that still had the dress in my size. Luckily for me, I happened to wake up super early that day and saw the message before the dress sold out (it was the last one in my size!), and placed my order.

Seriously, how gorgeous is this dress?!?

I love everything about the Maud-Kat. I love the cool collar and the contrasting trim on the pockets. I love the amazing colors. And I especially love that it’s unlike anything I already had in my wardrobe.

I’ve been getting a lot of mileage out of my new Splendette duotone duchess bangles and necklace…I’m really loving this color palette this spring!

It’s just such a great look!

I already loved the few Miss Candyfloss dresses I have…the quality and fit of each piece is outstanding. But their excellent service in helping me track down this dress has made me a forever fan of the company, and I am definitely looking forward to shopping with them again!
