Bunny Day (Observed)

For the second year in a row, Bunny was away at RSCM camp on her actual birthday, so we picked today to celebrate her turning 15!

The day got off to an earlier start that she probably would have preferred, because I inadvertently scheduled an orthodontist appointment for her this morning. But we got to stop at Rural King afterward, where she got to see the store mascot, Tate…he’s a big bunny!

When we got home, she opened her presents, and they were an excellent snapshot of her personality. Books (including one about pigeons, and one all things Marvel), a new Erstwilder brooch, a plush Pokemon pidove, and a Star Wars Lego set featuring her favorite character, Darth Vader (plus a Harry Potter Lego set featuring her favorite character from that franchise, Sirius Black, that she received before she left for camp):

We spent the day watching some of her favorite movies, and her selection was also her in a nutshell…Black Panther, The Empire Strikes Back, Zootopia, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Of course we also had a special birthday dinner. Since she had gum surgery in June, and didn’t get to fully enjoy the build-your-own-sandwich bar we had on the Fourth of July, we did that again. There were four kinds of meat (including bacon at the birthday girl’s request, which was a fantastic addition I hadn’t thought of before!), five kinds of cheese, and six kinds of salty snacks (and, no, I didn’t plan for the numbers to go like that!), plus Faygo Rock & Rye soda:

Of course I made a bunny cake to her specifications:

We missed having her at home on the actual day, but we were very happy to get to say “Happy 15th Birthday, Bunny!” to her today!

Chickadee Thursday

Today’s “Chickadee Thursday” pictures are actually “Chickadee Wednesday” photos, and with good reason…we made our yearly visit to Rural King yesterday, and while we didn’t find bunnies for sale, we did discover that in the last year, the store has a acquired a mascot…Tate the Rabbit!

Did you know that you can put a leash on a rabbit and walk him around the store? I didn’t, but apparently, Tate enjoys it, and so we spent some time there, taking him for a…hop?

Chickadee loved how big he was, and how soft (and pink!) his ears were. He’s a good and patient rabbit for sure!

I really have to commend the gentleman who works at our local Rural King. For at least the last three or four years, he has been super kind and accommodating…he always takes time to talk to us about their animals (usually chicks and ducks in addition to bunnies), and finds time to let the children interact with the rabbits…he’s a true treasure!

Chickadee Thursday

Chickadee is still learning how to read, but even without knowing all the words, she’s gotten really good at following along in the bulletin at church, like she did tonight for the Maundy Thursday service (don’t worry…I took the picture well before church started, while her older siblings were warming up with their choir!):

And a bonus picture from our visit to Rural King earlier this week…Chickadee got to hold a bunny!

A Meeting of Kings

I will admit to being tickled that a Burger King opened up right outside our local Rural King:

It’s just too bad Mattress King no longer exists here…they could have gone for a royal trifecta!

A Typical Saturday?

This morning, we ventured out to run some errands, as is our custom on Saturday mornings. Today’s errands, however, involved a trip to Rural King. Now, I bet you’re wondering why in the world we would be going to Rural King. Well, they had some new items in stock that we needed to check out.

I bet you can imagine which member of our family was happiest about this stop!

Actually, all of the children were enthralled by the bunnies. Ladybug was very amused that this bunny seemed intent on eating the flowers off of her dress!

We also learned that some unsuspecting customer may get a big bunny surprise–we watched one of the girl bunnies jump the fence into the boy bunny side, and also saw a boy bunny attempting the same feat in the opposite direction! Someone’s going to get a little more bunny than they bargained for, I’m sure!

I, for one, am amazed that we made it out of the store without buying one. It’s very difficult to resist a face this cute!
