Today Bunny continued building up the section of the Lego Disney Castle that Moose started yesterday, and added a pretty little balcony:
The part I think she was most excited about, though, was building a secret compartment (under the blue section behind Daisy) that contains Cinderella’s glass slipper and a storybook that begins “Once upon a time…”
Moose asked for a short build today, so he just took care of building up the walls around the bedroom Ladybug started yesterday, and also added some really nice curtains above the bed:
I love that you can see them from the outside, too!
If there’s any day that rivals Pie Day for making our house smell like a bakery, it’s my annual Christmas Baking Day.
Yes, I’ve already been doing some Christmas baking…German cookies for Christmas School, lussekattes for Santa Lucia Day, other various treats here and there. And we’re saving the gingerbread and sugar cookie baking for the week after Christmas. But there’s always one day prior to Christmas each year when I bake all my “fancy” Christmas cookies, and that’s what I did on Saturday…28 dozen of them!
I baked our old favorites (raspberry-almond thumbprints and chocolate peppermint). I made some newer favorites that will probably be old favorites in a few years (chocolate crinkles and linzer). I tried a few new recipes that looked interesting to me (meringue kisses and peppermint meltaways). And I tried to recreate an old, store-bought favorite with decent success (a duplicate of Keebler’s anise-flavored Jingles).
Yes, there was a point when I couldn’t find our kitchen under all the cookies. And yes, it feels like we’re living in a bakery. But I love organizing pretty plates of Christmas cookies, and sampling some along the way!
Today is a very special Mani Monday, because I’m taking a look at both a new-to-me brand of nail polish I recently tried, as well as a new-to-me formula of nail polish!
I’ve been aware of Holo Taco for a while now, but they really caught my eye when they introduced a collection of magnetic nail polish. I’ve also been aware of the concept of magnetic nail polish for quite some time, but I’ll be honest…I didn’t understand how it worked, and I really wasn’t interested in finding out. The colors of this collection were what really captured my attention…from left to right, Wicked Potion, Queen’s Curse, Twice in a Blue Moon, Love Spell, Fairy Tail:
That fabulous color selection made me want to find out just what makes magnetic nail polish special (and what makes it work!). Fortunately, Holo Taco has a video on their website that shows exactly how to use the magnet to achieve different looks, and when I saw it in action, I understand to purpose of the wand and how the patterns appear.
For my first Holo Taco mani, I went with Wicked Potion and Love Spell, for a twist on the traditional red and green of Christmas. I didn’t get the magnetic lines quite right (my middle daughter had much greater success with her first attempt!), but it was fun to do, and still looked cool when it was done:
For my second attempt, I chose Queen’s Curse. I think I did an even worse job with the magnet this time (or maybe I didn’t put on a thick enough coat of nail polish), because I really can’t see the magnet line at all, but the color is gorgeous!
I’m looking forward to practicing with the magnet more until I get the mani right, and I’m also excited about trying out the other two colors in the collection!
Today Bunny worked on building up more of the second floor of the Lego Disney Castle…I’m wondering when it will actually be attached to the base.
She also got to add two more fun little scenes…the famous moment from Fantasia with the Sorcerer’s hat and broom, and a spinning wheel in a nod to Sleeping Beauty (or Once Upon a Time, depending on who you ask!):
The Miss Candyfloss Ramira-Gia floral playsuit isn’t my first playsuit, but it the first I have that is suitable for the colder months!
As soon as I saw this beautiful piece, I fell in love. While Miss Candyfloss makes a lot of one-piece pantsuits, they don’t often make one that isn’t a solid color from top to bottom. My favorite styles, though, are the ones that have a different bodice from the pants. This beautiful floral print contrasted with green pants is outstanding!
My Collectif doctor’s bag handbag is a perfect match!
There is something so elegant about a wide leg pant, yet they’re so easy to wear when the look is all one piece!
I accessorized with blue, green, and cream to go with the outfit, including a stack of Splendette Duchess Bangles and a navy hat:
It’s a great look for winter! (And, speaking from experience, with red accessories, also a great look for Christmastime!)
I’m still waiting on one more Miss Candyfloss playsuit this winter, and that one is the most glamorous yet…stay tuned!
