Purple for a Purpose

Purple is my favorite color. That’s not why my hair currently looks like this, though:

November is Epilepsy Awareness Month. Did you know that almost 3 million people in the United States have epilepsy, and 1/3 of them live with uncontrollable seizures because none of the available treatments work for them? I’m not claiming to be an expert about epilepsy and seizures…there’s much more that I don’t know, than what I do know. But, if I can do even a little thing like dyeing my hair to show support to families dealing with disorder, and help spread awareness, then at least I’m doing a little something. You can learn about epilepsy, and spread awareness, too!

Back to Normal

In case you missed it, on New Year’s Day, I did this to my hair:

Bright colors like that don’t last long, however, so not too much time passed before I went with an all-over violet:

But, as is the case with all good things, that too came to an end, and more quickly than I expected, so now it’s back to normal, more or less:

If you’re keeping track, that’s three major dye jobs, and a serious hair-bleaching in about a month’s time, which is not ideal. I loved the dip-dye pink and purple, although after discovering how hard the bleaching process was on my hair, I don’t know that I’ll ever try something so extreme again, and if I do, it will be over my natural (kind of) color, not over bleached hair! I loved the violet, too, but it was definitely not worth the effort once I found out how quickly it washed out. I’m glad I did it all once, though, and even gladder that I have photographic evidence of it!

Girly Girl

Ladybug is the girliest girl I know. Granted, a lot of this is in comparison to Bunny, who tends toward tomboy, but still.  I find it so very amusing that someone who isn’t even quite a year and a half yet can be so feminine. Ladybug has the girliest little voice, and an unbelievably girly little giggle.  She even (usually) has quite a girly little sneeze.  But that’s not even the thing that amuses me the most.

What really gets me, especially in light of her age, is how, dare I say, vain she is.  Now, I’m not saying vanity is a good thing, and I’m certainly not going to encourage her to be into her own looks as she grows older, but I find it interesting to see it unfold as she gains more independence.  She loves having her hair brushed and styled (even though her hair is still so short she doesn’t really need it!).  When she sees Bunny having her hair brushed, she comes running.  She loves having “pretties” (mainly those brightly colored, plastic barrettes that little girls are inclined to wear) put in her hair.  And that is her word for them–“pretties.” She can’t really say it yet, but she recognizes it and comes running.

It’s especially bad when we’re shopping at Wal-Mart.  If we happen down the hair-care aisle, she starts pointing at all the brushes, and looking at us like she’s wondering why we’re not playing “beauty parlor” right there in the store.  She hasn’t had a melt-down over them yet, but I’m sure that day is coming!

I love watching their own little individual personalities unfold…
