Sartorial Saturday–A Floral Dress for Autumn

I love looking through the new Miss Candyfloss lookbook at the beginning of each season…multiple times. I highlight all of the pieces that catch my eye, and then go back through and whittle down my wishlist until I have something reasonable and attainable. But every once in a while, Miss Candyfloss will have a surprise release of an item that wasn’t in the look book that causes me to go back and cut my wishlist down further to make room for something else. The Hasia-Lee floral swing dress is one of those items:

I am absolutely in love with this gorgeous knit dress! It’s made from a cozy, warm fabric in an unexpected-for-autumn color palette of blue, purple, and green. Of course it has pockets, and also a skirt that TWIRLS!

I accessorized with my Elizabeth Claire Taylor silver hoop earrings, a stack of Splendette Duchess Bangles, a Meteor Jewelry Starlite necklace, and a pair of Erstwilder brooches, plus a navy hat and grey gloves:

Here’s a closer look at my brooch pairing…I guess they match too well, because they kind of disappear against the fabric!

I think the floral print is a bit unexpected for this time of year, too, and I really love that!

I especially like that the dress has 3/4 sleeves, so if I want to pair it with a cardigan in the winter, I won’t feel like I’m smothering.

It’s such a pretty print in such lovely colors!

I wonder if Miss Candyfloss will have another other surprises this season?

Sartorial Saturday–A Blouse in Colorful Plaid

You’ve already seen my trumpet skirt from the Miss Candyfloss “Vintage GlamIcons” collection; now it’s time to take a look at the blouse I got to match (no, I haven’t worn them together yet!).

The Melinga-Kat blouse has bishop sleeves, wide cuffs, a rounded hemline, and the most colorful plaid pattern you can imagine for fall! I love the bold shades of teal and yellow, with pops of red and purple interspersed…it’s a bright and unexpected color palette for autumn!

I accessorized with a stack of glittery Splendette Duchess Bangles and an Erstwilder brooch, plus a hat in navy blue.

I decided to walk the line between seasons by pairing this blouse from the autumn/winter collection with a skort from the previous spring/summer collection, and I think it’s the perfect combination for a transitional time of year!

There’s nothing like a bright outfit to raise your spirits on a cloudy day!

I’m looking forward to wearing this blouse with my trumpet skirt next!

Sartorial Saturday–The Trumpet Skirt

Not only am I featuring my first purchase from the new Miss Candyfloss “Vintage GlamIcons” autumn/winter collection, it’s also the number one item from my wishlist…the Gillian-Kat trumpet skirt! This is a very different look for me, but as soon as I saw it in the lookbook, I knew I wanted to give it a try. For its first outing, I paired it with a beautiful purple ruffled Frenchie top from Unique Vintage…I love these colors together, and while I did order a blouse from Miss Candyfloss to wear with the skirt, it’s just not quite cool enough for long sleeves yet.

I love how saturated the lovely teal color is, and the material of the skirt is surprisingly soft with just the right amount of stretch.

I accessorized with a teal and purple stack of Splendette Duchess Bangles, my Elizabeth Claire Taylor hoop earrings, and an Erstwilder brooch that is a little greener than I would have preferred, plus my favorite hat and matching gloves.

One of my favorite details about the skirt is the series of pleats in the back. Not only do they allow for full movement, they also look really cool!

I love the bold, bright colors of this outfit, and I’m really glad I took the chance on trying a very different style!

There are a few other blouses in the Miss Candyfloss lookbook that I think will look fantastic with this skirt…I hope I have the chance to add them to my wardrobe soon!

Sartorial Saturday–Summer Dreams…of Autumn

It’s still summer, but I’m already dreaming of autumn, so today’s outfit features pieces from the Miss Candyfloss spring/summer “Viva Rita” collection styled in a way appropriate for fall! I paired the Efrona-Lee tartan blouse in calming shades of blue and grey with the Donna-Sable palazzo pants.

I added blue and grey accessories, including a stack of Splendette Duchess Bangles and a cute Erstwilder penguin brooch, plus a blue hat and grey gloves:

The temperatures are still quite warm, so this outfit, while full coverage, is also light, so it’s comfortable to wear while still giving off autumn vibes!

Sartorial Saturday–Color Styling with Cues from Nature

Stylists will often tell you to look to nature for ideas when choosing colors for outfits, so I decided to go for a color combination I’ve previously tried to avoid…black and yellow, like a bumblebee! The foundation of the look is the Miss Candyfloss Harriet-Naia dress (which I have actually paired with some black accessories in the past, but not so intentionally).

I accessorized with a black boater hat with a trio of flowers attached to it, a Splendette necklace and stack of Duchess Bangles, black lace gloves, and an Erstwilder brooch:

It’s a bold and cheerful look!

How does nature inspire you to style outfits?

Sartorial Saturday–An Experimental Dress

Aloha! Today I’m taking a look at a dress from The Disney Store inspired by everyone’s favorite cute and fluffy alien, Experiment 626, Stitch himself! In addition to Stitch, the print on this sundress features colorful flowers, pineapples, and planets…it’s absolutely perfect for summer!

The details of this dress, like the Scrump stitched onto the belt, are outstanding!

I love how tropical this look is, just like Stitch’s adopted home of Hawaii!

I went with Stitch-approved blue accessories, including a stack of Splendette Duchess Bangles, a Meteor Jewelry Company Starlite necklace, and a pair of hair flowers. I also added an atomic Erstwilder brooch, although I wouldn’t have needed to, because there’s already a dimensional flower attached to the dress!

Here’s a another look at the beautiful blue belt, and the colorful illustrations on the dress:

I love the way all of the blues in the look pop against the white background!

I can’t pass a coordinating Loungefly by, especially when it’s on sale! I love that the print matches the dress, but instead of a white background, the vibrant sketches are on black.

It’s such a fun, happy look!

I believe that for the first time ever, after being a parent for 21+ years, I have a matching outfit with one of my children, because Ladybug has this dress, too! Stitch is her absolute favorite, and I love that she’s willing to be a Disney twin with me!

Sartorial Saturday–A Tartan Blouse

Time for a look at one last piece from the Miss Candyfloss “Viva Rita” collection! I don’t have a lot of tops, so I decided to add the Efrona-Lee tartan bishop-sleeve blouse to my wardrobe. It has the same button front and bustline that I love in so many of my Miss Candyfloss dresses and jumpsuits, and is beautiful in blue, white, and grey.

For my first wearing, I paired it with the Idalia-Lee skort, also from the “Viva Rita” collection. I’m looking forward to wearing it with the Donna-Sable palazzo pants, too!

I accessorized in blues and greys as well. I borrowed brooches from two of my daughters, both from the Erstwilder Paris Holiday collection. I also added a stack of Splendette Duchess Bangles, plus my Elizabeth Claire Taylor hoop earrings, light grey gloves, and my favorite tan hat.

This is a great blouse for the warmer months, and will transition well into fall, too!

Even thought it doesn’t have short sleeves, it’s still a pretty breezy top for summer!

I’m already looking forward to seeing what surprises the autumn/winter collection has in store!

Sartorial Saturday–A Striped Dress for Summer

If you have ever wished for the perfect dress to wear to the beach, I have just the piece for you!

OK, we don’t have much in the way of beaches around here. But that didn’t stop me from adding the Meredith-Lee from Miss Candyfloss to my wardrobe. It’s my favorite style of button-down dress with pretty blue stripes in a lovely cotton/linen blend.

I accessorized with a stack of Splendette Duchess Bangles, an Erstwilder brooch, and a pair of fishnet gloves…plus a floppy sunhat. Keep reading to see pictures of that, too!

I love the contrasting belt and trim on the sleeves…it’s such a pretty shade of blue!

Enter the previously-mentioned hat:

You can see how perfect this would be at the beach…if I can’t make it to the ocean, maybe I can work in a quick jaunt to Chicago and the shores of Lake Michigan!

This dress sold out fast, and I’m really happy I was able to get my order in before it was gone!

Sartorial Saturday–The Happiest Dress that Ever Twirled

“It’s a world of laughter
A world of tears
It’s a world of hopes
And a world of fears
There’s so much that we share
That it’s time we’re aware
It’s a small world after all.”

I think by now, my love of all things Mary Blair and especially “It’s a Small World” is pretty evident, so you won’t be surprised to know that as soon as I learned that a twirly dress with a print that reflects the children of the world showcased in the ride was coming to the Disney Store, I put it on my wishlist.

Puff sleeves aren’t usually a style I embrace, because I prefer not to draw attention to my upper arms, but these puffs are so extreme, I find that I don’t mind the extra attention, because that’s kind of the point!

Did I mention the matching ears? I’m dreaming of wearing them to Disney World in a few years, when Ladybug and I hope to take a trip together!

Besides the ears, I accessorized with a stack of Splendette Duchess Bangles, an Erstwilder brooch, and a Crislu necklace that features the clock face from the ride!

I love the blue background of the dress, and I really love the way the print pops against it!

There are so many lovely colors, the options for accessorizing are endless…I decided to wear a purple belt this time, and I really like how it looks.

There is also a matching Dooney & Bourke handbag. I don’t normally go in for designer bags, but this one was too good to pass up!

It is absolutely the perfect outfit for me!

I love Disney’s special collections…they’re so well-designed, and there’s truly something for everybody!

Sartorial Saturday–The Perfect Birthday Dress

I have been waiting and waiting for my favorite dress from the Miss Candyfloss Viva Rita collection, the lovely checked Virtue-Violette, to be released, because I really wanted to wear it on my birthday. I was getting nervous, but as luck would have it, it was released this week, and somehow, even with international shipping, it arrived on Thursday, the day before my birthday, so I was able to wear it yesterday on our birthday trip to Ste. Genevieve, MO!

I love everything about this dress. It is my very favorite style of dress from Miss Candyfloss, with functional buttons all the way down the front, which makes it perfect for wearing unbuttoned from the waist with shorts underneath (I’m planning on wearing it that way very soon!). The colors in the checked pattern, which are blues and a gorgeous purple/pink, are my favorites. And between the lightweight fabric, the swing skirt, and the sleeveless bodice, it’s nice and cool for summer!

I accessorized with a stack of Splendette Duchess bangles, a Meteor Jewelry Company necklace, silver hoop earrings from Elizabeth Claire Taylor, and an Erstwilder brooch, plus a pair of blue hair flowers:

Here’s a closer look at my brooch. It’s not specifically a birthday cake, but as soon as I saw it earlier this year, I knew I wanted it to wear for birthdays, and it looks gorgeous with this dress!

I found a great vintage sign that made the perfect backdrop for my look, too!

This beautiful dress made me feel like a princess on my birthday!

I still have a few pieces to share from this collection, but this was my last purchase for the season, which is always a little bittersweet to me, because I hate when things are over…but it will be time to look forward to the autumn/winter collection before you know it!
