Sartorial Saturday–A Necklace Reclaimed

Today I’m taking a look at a Talbots necklace that’s been in my wardrobe for over a decade (since at least 2014)!

It’s a bold, beautiful piece, but sadly once I haven’t worn in years…until now:

The clasp broke I don’t even know how many years ago, and I didn’t have the energy to figure out how to fix it, or if it was even something I could fix. But every few months, I would lament the fact that I didn’t have a yellow necklace to wear with my various outfits…until a few weeks ago, when I decided that since I did actually have a yellow necklace, it was time to figure out how to make it work for me (good thing I never got around to throwing it out!).

In the end, I decided to steal the clasp from another, possibly older necklace that I had also kept, even though I knew I’d never wear that one again, because it’s a very dated style, and no longer goes with my current fashion to boot. So I got out the pliers, and moved the clasp from one necklace to the other, and now I have a yellow necklace to wear again!

As you can see, I’ve already paired it with several outfits…as it turns out, I really do have a lot of use for a statement necklace in yellow, and I’m so glad I finally took the time to bring it back to life…I only wish I had done it sooner, because it really was a simple fix!

Sartorial Saturday–The Ingenue

Every once in a while, you get a second chance on something you missed out on.

The first time this beautiful blue floral Ingenue dress from Vixen by Micheline Pitt was available for pre-order, I wanted to get it, but since I fell directly between sizes, and it was a new dress without reviews about fit, I was reluctant. In the end, all the pre-orders sold out, and I thought that was that, but every time I saw a photo of someone in the dress, I felt like I had missed out on something special. And then a second run of the dress popped up, and after reading the reviews and asking some questions, I decided to just size up and hope for the best.

The fit is great! I probably could have sized down, but I really like being able to take a deep breath and eat, so I’m glad I went a bit larger. Strangely, the part of the dress that is really too big is the belt…even if I use the farthest notch, it’s still not remotely fitted, which is not something I’m used to.

I also ordered this beautiful sun hat in a lovely blush pink color…I love how it looks with this dress, and it really comes off as a neutral, so I know I’ll be able to wear it with lots of other things, too! Of course I also have a great Splendette stack, and my pearl and floral necklace from Talbots is a perfect match!

Isn’t it a lovely look?

I’m so happy to have had a second chance at this dress!

Sartorial Saturday…On A Sunday–My Second Dapper Day (At Home)

Back in April, I got to participate in my first Dapper Day…at home. They’re back this weekend with the fall event, and I figured, why not dress up again? This time, I went with my Miss Candyfloss dress, a Splendette duchess bangles stack, an Erstwilder brooch (the one hint of Christmas in my outfit!), gloves from Unique Vintage, and a necklace and handbag from Talbots. Oh, and my very favorite hat!

I’m really happy I got to participate in these events this year, because even pre-pandemic, Dapper Day wasn’t something I thought I’d get to do. After this whole mess is over, though, I kind of hope I might get to attend an in-park event someday!

One Skirt, Two Ways–Summer vs. Fall

I have a black and white gingham skirt from Talbots that I just love. It’s the perfect length, has a great shape, and goes with everything. It is more of a summer skirt, because it’s very lightweight. And I wear it a lot during the summer! But just because it’s a lightweight skirt doesn’t mean it can’t be worn in the fall. So, I found a new way to wear it that doesn’t make it look like I’m on my way to a picnic, and is very autumn appropriate.

I love finding ways to extend the use of my favorite pieces of clothing!
