We’ve visited the Missouri Botanical Garden three times in the past week, and each time we went, we walked through the Japanese Garden. It’s been fun watching the cherry blossoms come to life, and see how green everything is getting!

Chickadee Thursday
The Fourth Year with Dolly
Yesterday I wrapped another year of monthly Chickadee and Dolly pictures. They’ve had some adventures this year, including visits to local places like Eckert’s and the Missouri Botanical Garden, and trips to more exotic locations like Atlanta’s Turner Field.
As long as she still likes having her picture taken with Dolly, I imagine I’ll keep doing it. It’s getting harder to keep track of how many months old she is, though!
Four!
Today is Chickadee’s fourth birthday!
We spent the morning at the Missouri Botanical Garden, at her request. It was a beautiful day to be there…the weather was great, and so many beautiful flowers are blooming!
Of course she loved opening her presents. She received her very first big girl Lego sets…all Frozen-themed. She also received a sonic screwdriver, so she is running around pretending to be The Doctor.
She wanted a chocolate cake for her birthday, but since we’ve had so very much cake here lately, I made cupcakes instead, just for a change of pace. As it turned out, she was really only interested in the frosting, anyway, so it was a good choice!
Happy birthday Chickadee!
Forty-Eight Months
Chickadee and Dolly have been having a fun birthday together! We spent the morning at the Missouri Botanical Garden at Chickadee’s request, and we also stopped at Schnucks, where she enjoyed a cookie from the bakery while we shopped. This afternoon, she asked to walk to Moose’s school to get him, so Dolly got an extra outing!
Happy birthday Chickadee (and Dolly)!
Stripes and Planes
I’ve worn stripes with Mary Blair trains before, so it seems fitting to also wear stripes with Mary Blair planes!
This is my first Doris skirt from Pinup Girl…it’s also my first “something other than a Jenny skirt! While I love the Jenny, and it will probably always be my favorite, it’s nice to have a skirt in a little bit of a different style to mix things up (although I think this would look better on me if it was about two inches shorter). I love the print…I’m a big fan of Mary Blair transportation-themed art, apparently. Did I mention that Pinup Girl is going to have a boat print later this year….?
Confirmation Day!
In addition to being Palm Sunday/Sunday of the Passion of Christ, today was also Confirmation Sunday, and it was Ladybug’s turn to be confirmed and receive the Sacrament of the Altar for the first time! She has worked very hard on memory work and sermon reports for the last two years, and we’re very proud of her!
After church, we came home and got ready for her party. We had candles in her favorite color (purple), her favorite punch, and even more cake. It’s all cake all the time in the Markel household this month! She was thrilled that so many members of our church family were able to stop by and celebrate with her!
This was a big milestone, and a very exciting day for our little Ladybug!
A Meeting of Kings
The First Teenager
Today was a much-anticipated day…Turkey turned 13!
We spent the morning at the Missouri Botanical Garden, at his request.
This afternoon, he opened his presents. Not surprisingly, he received a lot of new Lego sets!
Turkey requested a lemon-lime birthday cake, so I made a white cake with a lemon curd filling and a lime whipped cream frosting. I found some fun candles that spelled out “Happy Birthday,” and then I realized that equaled exactly 13 candles…perfect!
This evening, he’s been working on assembling his new Lego sets…this car is really cool, and actually took him a while to build!
It was a great day. Now we just have to get used to the idea of having a teenager in the house!
Quote of the Day
