Sartorial Saturday…On a Sunday–Mary Blair March

Here’s a look back at all of this year’s Mary Blair March outfits. I have 15 unique pieces in my wardrobe (nine dresses and six skirts), and I wore them each at least once, for a total of 23 different ensembles this March:

I’m still missing one (and only one, I think) print in some form in my wardrobe. I never did get my hands on the commuters print, and I think I may regret that oversight forever!

Sartorial Saturday–A Trio of Mary Blair Train Prints

Last week, I took a look at one of the most popular Mary Blair prints in my wardrobe. Before Mary Blair March comes to an end, I want to take a look at the other pattern that makes multiple appearances…the trains print:

I love that I have this print in different styles (on the Aurora dress, the Jenny skirt, and the Natalie swing dress), and also in different colors. Like the planes, this is also fun to accessorize in different ways for totally different looks!

2018-19 School Year–Week Twenty-Nine

Following our much-needed spring break, I feel like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel that is this school year…suddenly, we have less than two months to go!

Turkey and Bunny learned quite a few new things this week. They graphed hyperbolas in math and learned about the First Law of Thermodynamics in science. They also learned how to calibrate a thermometer (our was off by approximately two degrees), and how calorimeters work. In history they learned about the creation of duchies in what was Francia. We came so close to finishing The Scarlet Letter…that will be complete next week.

Ladybug constructed two-level outlines in writing…and enjoyed doing it! She also continued to work with percents in math. Her science lessons focused on horses’ hearing and sight. In history, she read about Central and South America…the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas, as well as the Conquistadors who came to those countries, and the beginning of the slave trade.

Chickadee started (and came close to finishing!) and new book: The Best Trick. She learned how to carrying while adding! She also starting subtracting with two-digit numbers.

I think next week, we’re going to have a field trip day while we have our new roof put on…trying to do regular schoolwork with all that noise and activity doesn’t sound like much fun to me!

Chickadee Thursday

Today’s “Chickadee Thursday” pictures are actually “Chickadee Wednesday” photos, and with good reason…we made our yearly visit to Rural King yesterday, and while we didn’t find bunnies for sale, we did discover that in the last year, the store has a acquired a mascot…Tate the Rabbit!

Did you know that you can put a leash on a rabbit and walk him around the store? I didn’t, but apparently, Tate enjoys it, and so we spent some time there, taking him for a…hop?

Chickadee loved how big he was, and how soft (and pink!) his ears were. He’s a good and patient rabbit for sure!

I really have to commend the gentleman who works at our local Rural King. For at least the last three or four years, he has been super kind and accommodating…he always takes time to talk to us about their animals (usually chicks and ducks in addition to bunnies), and finds time to let the children interact with the rabbits…he’s a true treasure!

Tasty Tuesday–Stromboli

This is one of our family’s favorite recipes, and Turkey’s go-to when he picks his birthday dinner.

  • 3 loaves Rhodes bread dough, thawed
  • Dried basil
  • 20 slices deli ham
  • 24 slices deli Genoa salami
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Grated parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 375.

Split bread dough in two equal portions. Roll each out in a rectangle, about 15×10 inches. Sprinkle each with basil, then top each with half of the ham, salami, and mozzarella. Roll each from the long side; pinch closed. Place each seam side down on a baking sheet; rub with olive oil and sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until bread is golden-brown. Let stand five minutes before slicing.

A Last Look at the Orchid Show

Yesterday was the final day of this year’s Orchid Show at the Missouri Botanical Garden. I already shared a few pictures, but here is one last look at the beautiful flowers that were on display this year:

Sartorial Saturday–A Trio of Mary Blair Plane Prints

In honor of Mary Blair March, I thought I’d take a look at one of the two most common Mary Blair prints in my wardrobe…the planes print! I have this gorgeous pattern on three different Pinup Girl Clothing items: the Harley dress, the Natalie swing dress, and the Doris skirt:

I love the colors and whimsy of this print, and I really love how many different accessories in multiple shades work with it, making it super easy to create many different looks!

Seven!

This was the very rare year where Turkey’s and Chickadee’s birthdays fall in the same calendar week. Today was Chickadee’s turn…she is now seven!

We started the day early with present opening and cinnamon rolls. Chickadee was very excited not only to receive a new stuffed elephant, but also her first American Girl doll, and some clothes and accessories to go with her:

We spent the morning at the St. Louis Zoo, where we saw quite a few animals, including Chickadee’s favorite…the elephants:

We spent the afternoon watching Sailor Moon. After a dinner of Pizza Hut, we continued the day’s theme with an elephant-shaped birthday cake:

It’s hard for me to believe that my youngest child is seven. The years since Chickadee’s birth have gone by especially quickly, and I’m constantly surprised to realize what a big girl she is now!
