Sartorial Saturday–Mary Blair March Before & After

I already shared a wrap-up of this year’s Mary Blair March outfits, but I want to take a moment to look at the differences between March 1st and March 31st, even though I was wearing the same Harley planes print dress both days.

At the beginning of the month, I got a major haircut. Including BANGS. I can’t even remember the last time I had bangs, and while I’d been talking about doing it for months, I was pretty scared to actually go through with it, because I was worried I’d be be instantly filled with regret. But I LOVE them! I also had some ear piercings done early in the month. This is another thing I’ve thought about doing for a long time, and like the bangs, I’m glad I finally went through with it! I’m also really, really happy I had both things done before everything locked down, because who knows when I would have had another opportunity?

Obviously, the world we live in also changed a lot from March 1st to March 31st, to the point where it is now almost unrecognizable. Nothing is the same anymore. So I feel like these superficial, physical changes are a good metaphor for the events of 2020 so far, only mine are a lot more pleasant, with a lot less permanent ramifications!

Sartorial Saturday…On a Tuesday?–Mary Blair March

Here we are, at the end of another Mary Blair March. I think we can all agree that we’ll be glad to see this horrible month come to an end, but at least the fashion was good, even if I was all dressed up with no place to go for most of March! Here’s a look back at the outfits I put together this year:

I began and ended the month with my favorite Mary Blair piece from Pinup Girl Clothing: The planes print Harley swing dress. I think my favorite outfit, though, was the Animal Crossing themed one I wore on New Horizons release day. I also made a point to wear my lime green shrug as much as possible, because I think it pairs with my different Mary Blair pieces in a way that really displays the spirt of her color theory. Each of these items always brings a smile to my face, which was something I really needed this month, but I’m hopeful that next Mary Blair March will see me wearing them to some of my favorite locations that aren’t my home!

Sartorial Saturday–Gold Room Harley

It’s been quite a while since I had a new dress! There was a dress from Pinup Girl Clothing that I’ve wanted since the first time I saw it…the Gold Room Harley swing dress. And thanks to a sale last month, I was finally able to add it to my wardrobe!

The Harley is my very favorite PUG dress style. I love the way it fits. I especially love this dress because of its pattern and somewhat unusual color palette.

As always, accessories are important. The one downside to the Harley is that the neckline really doesn’t work with my necklaces. But I made up for that with an amazing Splendette duchess bangles stack, silver hoop earrings, and the Slothertons brooch duo from Erstsilder:

Did I mention that one of my favorite things about the Harley swing dress is the twirl?

I know I’m going to be wearing this dress often…it’s “practically perfect in every way!”

One last twirl before I go!

Sartorial Saturday–A Trio of Mary Blair Plane Prints

In honor of Mary Blair March, I thought I’d take a look at one of the two most common Mary Blair prints in my wardrobe…the planes print! I have this gorgeous pattern on three different Pinup Girl Clothing items: the Harley dress, the Natalie swing dress, and the Doris skirt:

I love the colors and whimsy of this print, and I really love how many different accessories in multiple shades work with it, making it super easy to create many different looks!

Sartorial Saturday–Thanks PUG!

Here’s one more look at the new dresses that Pinup Girl Clothing recently added to their Magic of Mary Blair collection and kindly sent to me. Out of the five dresses, there are three different styles in four-ish prints (the two plane prints are so different, I’m not sure how to count them!). Two of the styles (the Natalie Swing and the Audrey), were new additions to my wardrobe, and I love having some new options! If you asked me to pick a favorite, I don’t think I could, but I will say I love the way the Harley dress fits, and I also love having the clown print in my closet, because I didn’t have that one in any form before.

With the exception of the commuters print, I think I now own at least one version of each Mary Blair print that PUG has released. They are definitely some of my favorite items, and I love how cheerful I feel when I’m wearing any one of them! Thanks PUG, for making my closet a happier place!!!

Sartorial Saturday…On a Tuesday–Red, White, and Blue

Since tomorrow is Independence Day in the U.S., I thought I’d share a few ideas for dressing for the Fourth of July. You’ll notice Pinup Girl Clothing’s Mary Blair plane print makes an appearance three different ways…as a Harley dress, a Natalie swing dress, and a Doris skirt. The red, white, and blue of the print is perfect for Independence Day fashion! So are PUG’s red Harley top, blue sky harlequin skirt, and red, white, and blue Amanda dress!

Here are some of my favorite ways to accessorize with red, white, and blue, as well:

What’s your favorite way to wear red, white, and blue?

Sartorial Saturday–Taking Flight

I was very excited to find the Mary Blair planes print Harley dress in the box Pinup Girl Clothing sent me last month. I only own one other Harley dress, and because it was a clearance item, I had to buy a size larger than I normally wear, so it doesn’t fit quite right, which doesn’t stop me from wearing, but does limit how I can wear it. This dress, however, fits like a glove, and I love it!

I thought it would be fun to do another special photo shoot, so we went to beautiful Tower Grove Park in St. Louis, and finished up just before a storm rolled in!

I love how easy it to accessorize this dress…I went with green accents this time, but I could have easily done red or blue as well!

This is a great summer dress, and I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of it. Come fall, I can just throw on my bolero to ward off the chill!

Winter Blues

When the winter blues include a dress from Pinup Girl Clothing and jewelry from Meteor Jewelry Co., I don’t mind them at all!

I’ve been working on finding ways to make my Pinup Girl items work for the colder months. Ironically, my newest dress, which I purchased during their Boxing Day sale, is one of the easiest items I have to winterize! It might be a halter dress, but with a shrug over top, it’s very easy to wear this time of year, and it has some nice, cool, wintry colors, so it works very well. Plus, I finally completed my blue Starlite collection from Meteor Jewelry with the bracelet…I can’t tell you how much I love the style of these pieces, and how well made they are!
