Sartorial Saturday–Vintage Heritage

My top two favorite clothing styles are vintage and German national dress…today I’m taking a look at how I combine them!

For this look, I paired the dramatic green Clarisse-Gia blouse from Miss Candyfloss with my favorite Rare Dirndl dress and a lace apron. I’ve worn this blouse with another dirndl, as well…I didn’t intend to style it like this when I ordered it, but the first time I tried it on, I knew it would be a perfect companion to dirndls!

I accessorized with an edelweiss clip worn as a brooch and a Rare Dirndl necklace and bracelet as well:

I really enjoy pairing Dr. Martens Mary Janes with dirndl socks:

I love everything about this outfit!

I have a lot of fun figuring out different ways to wear unexpected pieces of my wardrobe together!

Sartorial Saturday–MAXImizing My Wardrobe

Everyone once in a while, I add a “modern” piece of fashion to my wardrobe…but really, this denim maxi skirt from Lane Bryant reminds me of the 90s!

What I really like about this skirt is the tulip hem, which I think gives it some good movement and visual interest.

I paired it with a sweater (also from Lane Bryant) with a fun neckline that has been in my wardrobe for YEARS. I added an Erstwilder scarf as a belt, and Dr. Martens Mary Janes, in keeping with the 90s theme:

I accessorized with a Spiffy the Sausage Dog brooch from Erstwilder to match the scarf, plus a RockLove Jewelry necklace, and earrings and a bracelet from Lane Bryant:

This is a fun modern, and yet familiar, look for me!

I’ve already found many other ways to style this skirt…denim is very versatile!

Sartorial Saturday–The Pluto Skirt (And Letter Sweater!)

You’ve heard of that famous 50s wardrobe staple, the poodle skirt…today I’m taking a look at a PLUTO skirt!

Yes, that’s Pluto as in Mickey Mouse’s pet. When I saw this adorable skirt and sweater set by Her Universe celebrating Pluto’s 95th anniversary on the Disney Store’s website, I knew it would make all of my vintage dreams come true, because it was a rented poodle skirt way back in the 5th grade that made me fall in love with retro styles in the first place!

The combination of collared cardigan and full skirt (complete with Pluto on the iconic twisted leash) are exactly what you would expect from the recognizable style, and I added my Dr. Martens Mary Janes to complete the look:

I went with classic accessories, including pearl bow earrings and some Splendette Duchess Bangles in red and white. No need for a brooch since the letter on the sweater is in just the right place!

The sweater has lovely pearlized buttons and a pretty ric rac trim on the collar:

Here’s a closer look at the lovely details:

I feel like I just stepped out of a 1950s movie!

This is such a fun outfit, and I have another look planned for the skirt with a different sweater, too!

Sartorial Saturday–A Footwear Flashback

Today let’s take a look at a pair of shoes that bring me back to high school…Dr. Martens 8065 Crazy Horse Mary Janes!

I’ve been wanting to get these shoes for well over a year, especially once I saw that they were available in brown. I had a pair very much like them when I was in high school that I loved (although back then, I wasn’t wearing name brand!), and I’ve been thinking about how great they would look with overalls, wide leg jeans, and especially dirndls, which is how I first styled them:

I know they say if you remember wearing a trend when you were younger, you should pass on it when it comes back around, but that’s the brilliant thing about a time-tested company like Dr. Martens…they never went out of style in the first place, and a timeless piece is always appropriate!
