Sartorial Saturday–90s Flashback

“Mom, what were you like in the 90s?”

Last month’s viral trend really amused me, especially when I realized I could demonstrate exactly what I was like in the 90s without digging for an old photo…I just had to find the right items in my current wardrobe, and it wasn’t even hard!

This was a common look for me in the 90s…an oversized flannel over a fitted top, wide-leg jeans, and Dr. Martens Mary-Janes.

For accessories, I used tiny butterfly clips to pull my hair back and added a choker and big hoops. Even my lip color, a plummy brown Colourpop lip stain called “90s Babe,” fits the theme!

And I even have the perfect Loungefly, inspired by one of my very favorite 90s movies, Clueless:

It was really fun to pull together a (dare I say) retro look from youth with pieces from my current closet…I guess some things never change!

Sartorial Saturday–Mad About Plaid

Can you believe the Heidi-Abalone tartan swing dress from Miss Candyfloss wasn’t originally on my “must buy” list this season?!? But one day when I was flipping through the lookbook, I realized that it’s basically the same style as what has become my favorite style of dress for summer, just with longer sleeves. So I combed through my wishlist to decided what was going to get the axe so I could add this lovely dress to my wardrobe!

There are some beautiful and unexpected colors in the dress (I love the teal and red!), and I can’t wait to accessorize based on some of those, but to start, I went with basic black and grey with my Erstwilder brooch, Splendette stack of Duchess Bangles, and hat and gloves:

The dress has lovely puff sleeves, which I’m especially enjoying since Chickadee and I are reading Anne of Green Gables right now!

Tartan is such a pretty pattern for autumn!

The skirt has a fabulous twirl!

This is the perfect fall dress!

This “Exquisite” collection has just been flying by, but I still have a few more pieces I’m looking forward to sharing!

Sartorial Saturday–Stripes and Tartan

Time for a look at another piece from the Miss Candyfloss “Exquisite” collection…the Ottilia-Sadie swing dress! It’s a beautiful style that looks like a suit. The bodice has my favorite row of asymmetrical buttons, but this time, they’re decorative, not functional. It has a lovely high collar and subtle stripes, which go really well with the tartan skirt and belt.

Because the colors are so neutral, you can accessorize with just about anything! This time, I went with my favorite camel hat, grey, cream, and burgundy Splendette Duchess Bangles, an Erstwilder brooch, and black gloves.

The skirt is lovely and full, perfect for twirling!

I’m really excited about wearing this dress in the cooler months…it’s versatile and so, so pretty!

Sartorial Saturday–Mixing Patterns

Time for another styling of some pieces already in my wardrobe in anticipation of autumn! Today I’m mixing patterns with the plaid Elsa-Lee blazer and the checked Magdalia-Lee swing dress. I’m not usually one to combine patterns like this, but there’s something about this combination that I really like!

I accessorized with my Vixen by Micheline Pitt polka dot gloves, a stack of Splendette duchess bangles, an Erstwilder brooch, and my blue hat:

I think this works so well because the colors play nicely together, and the pattern on the skirt is fairly subtle, and doesn’t really compete with the jacket.

I wish I had thought of this combination sooner!

Do you like to mix patterns?

Sartorial Saturday–Tartan Shirtwaist

Thanks to Miss Candyfloss, I’ve discovered how much I love a shirtwaist dress, and I’m so excited that I now have the lovely Isolde-Sun tartan print in my wardrobe!

I’ve always loved the combination of grey and yellow, so this dress is perfect! I love that even though it’s a fall dress, it still has short sleeves, which come in handy around here as the temperature bounces up and down and back again.

Of course I added grey and yellow accessories, too, with a stack of Splendette duchess bangles and an Erstwilder brooch:

I especially love the full skirt and the pockets, and the fact that the buttons are covered in the same plaid!

There’s one more dress from the Miss Candyfloss Toujurs ÉlĂ©gant autumn/winter lookbook I’m hoping to order, and I hope it’s available soon!

Sartorial Saturday–Awaiting Autumn

I am so ready for fall!

Actually, I’ve pretty much been ready for fall ever since our first hot summer day, but now that school has started again, I’m really ready. Fortunately, Miss Candyfloss also appears to be ready for autumn, because not only have they released their new autumn/winter lookbook, Toujours ÉlĂ©gant, they’ve also already made a few of the pieces available! And one of my favorite looks, featuring the Phoebe-Amber tartan swing dress and Elke-Amber short blazer, was available in the very first release!

Don’t you love the fun sleeves on the blazer?!?

I love the color of the jacket (one that’s fairly unique in my wardrobe), and the lovely plaid.

Let’s be honest, though…it’s just not blazer season here yet, which is ok, because the dress is gorgeous on its own…the neckline is especially lovely:

The coordinating belt adds a nice extra pop of color:

I accessorized with a hat that is absolutely perfect with the dress, an Erstwilder brooch, and a fall-themed stack of Splendette duchess bangles:

I love every Miss Candyfloss dress I receive even more than the last, which is really saying something, because every piece I have ordered has been special and made me feel fantastic!

Sartorial Saturday–Plaid Pairings

Here’s a look back at all of the unique ways I’ve styled my black and purple plaid Long Jun skirt from Pinup Girl Clothing. I love how versatile it is!

Sartorial Saturday–Purple and Grey

Last week, I shared a bright and bold pairing for my new plaid Long Jun skirt from Pinup Girl Clothing. This week, I’m wearing the same accessories, but I went with a neutral Sabrina top…I love how this outfit has a completely different look!

Don’t purple and grey look lovely together?

Stay tuned for more outfits featuring this gorgeous skirt, because I have several other ideas in mind!

Sartorial Saturday–Inspired by the Scottish Highlands

I’m so excited to finally have my black and purple plaid Long Jun skirt from Pinup Girl Clothing! I’ve been looking forward to it for months, ever since Laura Byrnes previewed a sample of the fabric. I’ve been wanting a plaid skirt, and to be able to pre-order one in purple…it was a dream come true! I decided for the first wearing, I’d go bold and pair it with a PUG peasant top in Baton Rouge:

If the plaid didn’t have enough of a Scottish feel, this lovely Jacobite rose brooch from Daisy Jean Floral Designs (an Australian company that is pretty new to me), has me wanting to visit the highlands! I also went with all my favorite purple and grey Splendette pieces (Duchess bangles, a glitter bead necklace, and earrings), to finish the look:

I only had one concern about the skirt when I ordered it. It isn’t made of the standard cotton sateen that I think every other Pinup Girl Clothing skirt I own is made of. Instead, it’s a poly/rayon/spandex blend, and I was especially worried that the weight of the skirt wouldn’t be meet my standards. My concerns were totally unfounded, though…the fabric is not at all flimsy, and has a nice heft for twirling!

This skirt is completely gorgeous, even more so than it looks in pictures. The colors are so lovely and vibrant and saturated, and I’m just in love…it’s definitely going to be a fall staple for me! I just wish my wardrobe had more plaid in it now!
