Sartorial Saturday–“Haunt Couture” with Stephanie Buscema

I know that pretty much everyone other than me is excited that Halloween is approaching, so today I’m featuring my one concession to that holiday: a pair of spooky Pinup Girl Clothing prints featuring the art of Stephanie Buscema.

I bought the Allison dress in the Witch Transformation print last year. In retrospect, I wish I had gotten my favorite Jenny skirt in this print instead, but I waited too long, and it sold out before I made up my mind. I would have really enjoyed pairing this print with purple tops, though!

I learned my lesson, so this year I jumped at the chance to get the Skeleton Band Bella skirt when it first came out, and I’m not disappointed. I have tons of tops that go with it, and if you know me, you know I love to have options! In some ways, these prints are out of character for me, but then again, they’re super fun and quirky, so maybe they’re not that out of character after all!

Sartorial Saturday–Skeleton Band

I think it’s pretty clear that I’m not a Halloween person. Even so, I had a great time at Legends and Lanterns in St. Charles, MO, last year, wearing a Pinup Girl Clothing dress featuring art by Stephanie Buscema.

Well, Stephanie Buscema is one heck of an artist, because for the second year in a row, even though I don’t do Halloween, I have purchased a piece of clothing featuring her artwork from PUG’s Halloween collection. This year, it’s the adorably quickly skeleton band print, on a new-style-to-me skirt, the Bella:

Seriously, the artwork on this skirt is AMAZING! The musical skeletons are the cute kind of Halloween quirky (not scary at all, which really isn’t my thing), and the moon reminds me of the moon in one of my favorite video games…The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. And I love the color combination…the varying greys and pinks look so great together, and the striped PUG Jailbird top is the perfect addition to the outfit!

I went with pretty simple accessories to go with the outfit, including my pink Splendette Duchess Bangles and a matching necklace, plus hoop earrings designed by Elizabeth Claire Taylor.

I really like the Bella skirt…it feels almost as full as a Jenny, even though it’s not as gathered. And I love that once again, Pinup Girl has helped me step out of my comfort zone and try something new and unexpected that looks great on me!

Sartorial Saturday–More Mary Blair

I’m a huge fan of Mary Blair prints…I have ten Pinup Girl Clothing pieces featuring her work in my wardrobe! Until recently, though, I didn’t have the “Lips and Roses” print. I wasn’t a huge fan of the original color it came in, and while I wanted to love the gorgeous Ella dress in a new blue color that came out earlier this year, it just didn’t work for me. When I saw that the circle skirt in that same color was in the final sale section, I knew that was finally my chance to own this beautiful print, and for a steal! I love how many tops I have that it will go with…to start, I paired it with my red Harley, and it look amazing!

As always, I will be hoping for more Mary Blair prints for Pinup Girl in the future, but for now, I’m just glad to have added this to my wardrobe!

Sartorial Saturday–PUG Changed My Life!

Earlier in the summer, Pinup Girl Clothing announced that they were going to be holding everyone’s favorite contest: PUG Changed My Life. They encouraged their customers to share stories on Facebook and Instagram of how wearing Pinup Girl fashions has changed their lives. Of course, I had to enter. Pinup Girl has changed the way I see myself, and the way I present  myself, and I wanted to share how I went from invisible to confident, and discovered that I like who I am along the way. So over the course of the contest, I made several entries, trying to find the right words to explain how PUG Changed My Life.

I wasn’t really expecting to win, although the grand prize of a Pinup Girl shopping spree and a photoshoot with them in California was certainly appealing (yes, I have a not-so-secret dream to appear as a model on their website just once). And, as I expected, I didn’t win the grand prize. But on Bunny’s birthday, I realized I had an unusual number of notifications from Instagram popping up on my phone, and when I looked into it, I discovered that Pinup Girl had decided to award a few “honorable mention” prizes, and one of them was me!

I knew immediately what I was going to buy…the brown harlequin Long Jun skirt. I had been admiring the colors and print ever since it had come out, but I didn’t have the money for it. It took me a little longer to decide on a top (or tops) to go with it, but in the end, I chose a black Harley top, since I knew I liked the style, and I really needed a black top that didn’t have long sleeves. I also ordered a wrap top in pink that likewise goes with the skirt (as well as a bunch of others already in my wardrobe)…I’ll share that one at a later date.

I found some fun accessories to go with the outfit. The earrings are also from Pinup Girl, and match the bright pink in the skirt perfectly. The Erstwilder brooch was a little gift from Ryan, and picks up the other colors of the skirt. And the shoes (from Avenue, my favorite store to buy quality, comfortable shoes that look nice and are available in the wide-width I need after five pregnancies!), are a departure from what I usually wear with Pinup Girl styles, but I love how they go with the colors in the skirt.

The very fact that I was willing to share all this publicly just goes to show how much I’ve changed and how Pinup Girl was a huge part of that change. And while I love that I got a gorgeous new outfit without having to spend any money, I’m even more grateful that I have gotten to know who I am, and am willing to share that person with the world! Thanks Pinup Girl!

Sartorial Saturday–My Current Favorites

I was thinking about my current Pinup Girl Clothing favorites recently. And while I love all my PUG pieces, I came up with five outfits that I’m really into right now:

The surprising thing about this list is that while most of my PUG items are skirts, right now, three of my top five outfits are dresses. Who knows, though…in a few weeks, the list could be completely different!

Sartorial Saturday–Red, White, and Pink Harlequin

Last week’s Sartorial Saturday was all about Pinup Girl Clothing and red, white, and blue harlequin…today I’m focusing on red, white, and pink harlequin!

The Gena dress is new to me, and I really like it. I don’t have many dresses with sleeves, so this is a nice change, even in the summer. And I’m really into harlequin prints right now, so this dress was an instant hit! The Splendette bangles are a bit off, color-wise, but I don’t have many options when it comes to Splendette, so close enough will have to do. The necklace, however, is perfect! Overall, I think this is a really fun outfit, and I’m looking forward to wearing it all summer long!

Sartorial Saturday–Red, White, and Blue Harlequin

Last year for the Fourth of July, I shared what was my most patriotic outfit at the time, featuring Pinup Girl Clothing’s Amanda dress in red, white, and blue. This year, I’m back with another Pinup Girl outfit featuring America’s colors, but this time in separates…a red Harley top and a blue ice harlequin print circle skirt. While I originally styled the skirt for winter wear, I think it’s made the transition to summer well, especially paired with a blue Erstwilder brooch, red and blue Duchess bangles from Splendette, my favorite white hat, and a new pair of red heels!

Sartorial Saturday–Queen of the Castle(s)

The pink castles Jenny skirt was my first-ever clothing purchase from Pinup Girl Clothing (although I had purchased a canvas underskirt from them a few months before this skirt), and it remains one of my favorites. I love that I’m still finding new ways to style it, including new colors of tops that go with it, and brooches I don’t usually pair with it!

Sartorial Saturday–Italian Riviera Blue

There is no other outfit that makes me feel like I’ve stepped out of an episode of I Love Lucy like…well, really any outfit that involves this Pinup Girl Clothing Italian Landscape Jenny skirt. I especially like the way it looks with this blue peasant top…it’s easy to overlook the blue details in the skirt, but the top really makes them stand out!

Sartorial Saturday–1940s Style

I think it’s pretty obvious that 1950s fashion is my favorite…the fuller the skirt, the better! But ever since I first saw this Butterfly dress on Pinup Girl Clothing’s website, I have longed to wear it, even though it has a decidedly 1940s vibe. I finally got my chance when I placed my first Zulily order, and managed to get the dress for about 70% off! The dress didn’t come with the belt that was supposed to accompany it, but Zulily made it as right as they could, given that they didn’t have any more of the dress in stock. I have other belts that go with it, anyway, so in the end, I think it was a great purchase! I also have some great accessories to wear with it, including my favorite spring hat, and pastel Duchess bangles and a necklace from Splendette!

Wearing this dress makes me feel like I’ve stepped back into a picture of the Queen Mum during WWII, and I love having something a little different in my closet!
