Sartorial Saturday–Peasant Top Pairings

I own Pinup Girl Clothing peasant tops in several colors, but none of them are as versatile as this bright blue shirt…it goes with almost everything!

It also makes a great backdrop for many of my brooches!

I’m not even going to try to decide which pairing is my favorite…I’m just glad I can wear this top so many different ways!

Sartorial…Sunday–Easter Dressing

It’s Sartorial Saturday on a Sunday, because I have a very special outfit to share…my Easter outfit!

This is my first Long Jun skirt from Pinup Girl Clothing, and I love it almost as much as I love my Jennys! The blue floral print is gorgeous, and pairs so well with my Duchess bangles from Splendette. I added my favorite fancy brooch, hoop earrings, and my standard necklace. And of course I had to wear an “Easter bonnet!” This isn’t a new hat, but it’s the first time I’ve worn it on Easter, and it the perfect finishing touch to my Easter outfit!

Sartorial Saturday–Lady Wrestlers

Today’s Sartorial Saturday post includes a guest appearance by Bunny, who is now the proud owner of her very first piece of Pinup Girl Clothing!

As soon as I saw that they were releasing a skirt with a lady wrestlers print (which was done in collaboration with the Hernandez Brothers), I knew she had to have it. She loves all things WWE, so I knew it would be the perfect birthday gift. As it turned out, I didn’t have the heart to wait until her birthday to give it her…I really wanted her to have it for Wrestlemania last weekend. She was ecstatic, and had to do the poses of some of her favorite wrestlers while wearing it:

Now both Bunny and Chickadee have Pinup Girl items in their closets, but poor Ladybug will have to wait…she’s too big for the children’s items, but still too small for the women’s line!

Light it Up Blue

I always try to wear blue on World Autism Awareness Day. This year, I went with my blue harlequin print circle skirt from Pinup Girl Clothing, which has several gorgeous shades of blue. I also had plenty of blue accessories…my Starlite necklace from Meteor Jewelry, my Erstwilder bluebird brooch, and my new Duchess bangles from Splendette. I also painted my nails a fun shade of blue!

This year’s World Autism Awareness Day was extra special for us, since it was also Moose’s Confirmation Day, so I needed my outfit to be extra-special…and I really think I succeeded!

Sartorial Saturday–Mary Blair March

I had so much fun participating in Mary Blair March last month! Here is a wrap-up of some (but not nearly all!) of the outfits I wore, with a few favorites from other times thrown in for fun:

Next year, I’m going to choose a specific week in March to celebrate Mary Blair, and promote it. Hopefully, even more admirers of her work will join me then, in wearing lots of fun prints in different styles! And if we’re really lucky, maybe Pinup Girl Clothing will have added to their Mary Blair collection before then…I would love to add more items to my wardrobe!

Sartorial Saturday–The Skirtification of a Dress

I’ve been aware for some time that people have found ways to wear some of their Pinup Girl Clothing dresses as skirts. This usually involves folding the bodice of the dress down into the skirt, which is a little complicated for me, but I discovered that my two sundresses (the Nancy and the Lydia) are fairly easy to wear just by putting a peasant top on over the top of the dress.

The Nancy is the easiest dress to do this with. The neckline is low enough, and the straps thin enough that I didn’t have to do anything other than put a belt over the place where the top ends. And the olive-green peasant top is perfect with the colors of the Mary Blair butterfly print!

The Lydia’s straps aren’t quite as accommodating, so I had to fold them down into the bodice of the dress before putting on the peasant top. I was worried that this would result in a bulkier look, but I actually think it turned out ok:

I’m glad I experimented with a new way of wearing my dresses, especially these two, which are still a little too summery to wear on their own at this time of year. Anytime I can find more ways to wear my Pinup Girl items, and especially more ways to wear them throughout the year, I consider it a win!

Five!

As hard as it is for me to believe (do I start every birthday post that way?), Chickadee turned five today. These five years have gone by faster than any others in my life!

We spent the day at the St. Louis Science Center, or, as Chickadee calls it, the “Monster Museum.” We saw all her favorite exhibits, went to the star show, and saw our very first Omnimax film…Extreme Weather. And Chickadee and I even wore our matching Pinup Girl Clothing outfits, which feature her favorite animal: the elephant, in a fun Mary Blair print!

When we got home, it was present time. She received two Frozen Lego sets, which she loves, but the biggest hit was the Batcave, complete with a Batmobile, and some characters to play with!

She asked for a cake with a flower on it, which was super easy for me to decorate. The cake got pinker and pinker as the week went on. It started with pink frosting, then she wanted a strawberry cake, and then pink candles, and we even got strawberry ice cream to go with it. I’m pretty sure it’s the pinkest cake I’ve ever made!

Happy Birthday Chickadee!

Sartorial Saturday–It’s a Bird…And Planes!

I love how many different tops I can wear with my Doris Mary Blair planes skirt from Pinup Girl Clothing. I’ve done black, white, black and white stripes, and red, in addition to this olive green peasant top, and they all look great. No matter what color I’m wearing, though, I almost always pin on this pretty little blue bird brooch from Erstwilder…it’s the perfect addition, both in color, and in the flight theme of the outfit!

Less than two weeks to go in Mary Blair March…what Mary Blair prints are you wearing?

Sartorial Saturday–Bold Blue and Pink Stripes

Since it’s Mary Blair March, I decided to put together another new combination…this time, the pink and white striped Mary Blair circus elephant print skirt with this gorgeous blue peasant top from Pinup Girl Clothing. I was a little worried it wouldn’t work, since the top is so much darker than the elephants, but I love how bold the whole look is!

Sartorial Saturday–Pink and Blue

It’s Mary Blair March! This month, I’ll be sharing different outfits I’ve created using pieces from Pinup Girl Clothing’s “Magic of Mary Blair” collection.

I love how bright and cheerful this umbrella print skirt is. I almost didn’t buy it, because the photos I saw of it online made it looked more subdued…more of a peach than a coral. But when it restocked last year, I decided to take a chance on it, and I’m so glad I did! The color is much more saturated than the pictures led me to believe, and it goes with so many of my tops. Right not, I’m liking it paired with this beautiful blue peasant top…the whole outfit is so cheery and colorful, I almost feel like an Easter egg!
