Stripes and Boats

I’ve paired stripes with my Pinup Girl Mary Blair trains and planes skirts, so I figured I better try it out with the Mary Blair boats, too!

This is also a fun look and I love it, but I have to admit, I would love it even more if the stripes I was wearing were the pink and white ones on the peasant top that I missed out on this summer…I think that would be an amazing combination!

Pink & Yellow

Since Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer, I figured I should wear something bright and summery this weekend. My yellow Mary Blair train print skirt and a pink top is about as bright and summery as it gets!

Warm, summer-like weather will be with us for a while yet, but I’m already looking ahead to cooler days, and trying to figure out how I’ll style my Pinup Girl pieces for fall. I didn’t do a good enough job of wearing my favorites through the colder months last year, but now that I’m more comfortable in this style, I’ve got some good ideas, and I’m looking forward to trying out some new looks!

A Border of Boats

I wasn’t originally going to get this boat border print skirt. I love the print (Hello…Mary Blair! And another transportation print, too!), and the style (the Jenny is still my favorite style of anything from Pinup Girl Clothing!), but green is not a color I usually wear, so I assumed it wouldn’t work for me. Then I realized that while the skirt has a lot of green, at least it wouldn’t be near my face, so why wouldn’t I get it? And Pinup Girl even had a shirt in the perfect shade of pink to go with it!

Then, when I received my order, I almost returned it. Seriously. Had a return authorization number, boxed it up, sealed the box shut, took it downstairs so it was ready to go. But I thought about it overnight, and I realized that I was just in a bad mood when I tried it on, plus it was super wrinkly from shipping, and that colored my opinion of it. So, I tore open the box (again) and tried it on (again) and decided that I loved it!

So now I have trains, planes, and boats, all in Mary Blair prints from Pinup Girl. I wonder what’s next? Hot air balloons? Rocket ships? Bicycles? Only time will tell!

Derby Style

This combination of the dancing horse print Jenny skirt from Pinup Girl Clothing and a big, fancy hat immediately made me think of English Derbies, Stakes, and horse races of all kinds.

Summer is winding down (even though it’s still ridiculously hot outside!), so this will probably be the last time I wear this hat this year. It will be waiting for me next spring, however, and maybe I’ll even wear during the Royal Ascot!

Red & Pink

When I was a child, the biggest fashion faux pas I could think of was wearing red and pink together. You simply did not do that. As a matter fact, when we had school spirit days, one of them was inevitably “clash day,” and red and pink was the go-to pairing of choice not only for me, but for many of my peers.

How things change!

I have to admit, I was still hesitant to try this pairing. There were already pops of red in the pink skirt, and I was still afraid to put a bold red top with it. But I’ve seen photos of other people wearing these colors together, so I decided to conquer my fear of clashing. I’m not sure this will ever be a natural pairing to me, because for so many years, I thought it was an impossible combination, but I have to say, I love it! I also love how Pinup Girl has helped me step out of my comfort zone, and in doing so, actually helped me become more comfortable with myself!

Railpark Fashion

Originally, I had buried these photos at the end of my post about our visit to the Historic Railpark in Bowling Green, KY, however, I decided that fashion this appropriate for a location deserved its own write-up! There’s just something about a 50s style skirt and a vintage dining car…it’s a match made in heaven!

I actually struggled with deciding what to wear to the Railpark, because, believe it or not, I have two Mary Blair train prints from Pinup Girl Clothing…this cheerful yellow Jenny skirt, and the same print in a pink Aurora dress. I’m glad I went with the yellow…it looked great, especially against the red and yellow caboose!

Blue Elephants

When Pinup Girl first shared a photo of this Mary Blair circus elephants Jenny skirt at the end of the winter, I knew I would have to add it to my wardrobe. My plan was to pair it with the matching pink stripes peasant top, but my size sold out before I could even log into my account! The new blue Harley top is the same color as the elephants, so I figured it would make an acceptable substitute, and honestly, I think I may like it even better than the top I had planned on wearing with the skirt!

I’ve been wanting to order a pink elephants brooch from Luxulite for quite a while now, and I really love the colors in this one:

And, just to show how different a skirt can look when paired with a top in a different color:

I really love this fun elephant print! I’m still hoping I may get another shot at the striped peasant top in the future, but even if I don’t, I love the way it looks with what I already have!

A Parisian Unicorn

Most fans of Pinup Girl Clothing have their unicorns (items of clothing that are no longer available that you kick yourself for not purchasing when you had the chance). My number one unicorn (a purple and green harlequin Jenny skirt) is supposed to be re-released this fall maybe. But the other unicorn I had longed for (the Paris print Jenny skirt) was re-released last month, and you just can’t believe how gorgeous it is!

I was surprised to discover that the background of the skirt is a light pink…I had assumed it was just an off-white. The extra shot of color makes it extra special, in my opinion. And the print is amazing…the colors and details are spectacular, and it matches my baton rouge peasant top perfectly!

I also made my first-ever direct-from-Erstwilder purchase. When I saw their new cherry blossom brooch, I knew I had to have it, and although I’ve ordered a few other Erstwilder pieces from Pinup Girl, this one had to come straight from Australia. The shipping speed was unbelievable…I had it within about 72 hours of ordering! And the brooch is just as pretty as I thought it would be, and goes very well with this outfit.

Do you have a Pinup Girl unicorn?

Queen and Castles

Her Majesty the Queen has celebrated two big events in the last year (becoming Britain’s longest-reigning monarch last September, and turning 90 today), and for both events, we’ve had a tea party to celebrate. Of course, I had to dress for the occasion, and so both times, I’ve worn the most appropriate item of clothing in my closet…my pink castles Jenny skirt from Pinup Girl Clothing. I’ve also added my replica pink flower brooch to the outfit both times…it’s very appropriate!

There’s something about the combination of a gorgeous skirt and a happy event that makes these some of my favorite outfits ever!

Umbrellas

Last year, when Pinup Girl Clothing released their Mary Blair umbrellas Jenny skirt, I didn’t pay too much attention to it. I liked the umbrellas, but the pictures on their website made it look like a very soft peach color, and I just wasn’t interested.

But then I saw pictures of other people wearing it, and I realized that color was much brighter, and more pink than I had originally thought. Of course, by that point, it was sold out, so I figured I had missed my chance.

But Pinup Girl has re-released the skirt, and now it even includes pockets! And it’s beautiful in person.

I think this is already a contender for my outfit for next Easter!
